29 Nov Cape Town ramps up
Hot on the heels of Port Elizabeth’s new distribution centre, UPD’s Leon Steyn brings us news of exciting developments at UPD Cape Town.
UPD Cape Town has moved to improve customer service with planning getting underway in late 2016, tenders being issued in May 2017 and work commencing in July.
Leon provided some details of the improvements to UPD Cape Town.
“We are raising the roof over 4 700 sqm of the warehouse to a height of 9m, which also involves changing the roof configuration. The remaining 4 300 sqm will be re-sheeted as normal refurbishment. The air conditioning system is also being replaced and we are adding additional insulation to improve the temperature quality in the warehouse. New racking will be installed to increase stock holding, fully equipped with in-rack sprinklers. Staff will also be happy with renovations to the ablution facilities and the canteen.”
According to Sharmaine Hamer, UPD’s Regional Sales Manager – Coastal, customers are wanting more services, greater visibility into inventory and shipments, and shorter or more frequent delivery times. In addition, consumers are expecting more product lines causing wholesalers to re-think everything they’re doing in order to balance customer satisfaction with economies of scale.
“With the increased space, UPD Cape Town will be able to provide customers with more product lines, resulting in even greater customer satisfaction levels,” says Sharmaine.
